Tibetan incense, at the heart of Asian history and legends
Tibetan incense has a long history that dates back centuries.
Long ago, Tibetan monks used incense in religious rituals, but also for medicinal reasons. The medical monks, known as "Amchi", used specific incense to treat various diseases. For example, incense containing juniper was often used to purify the air and prevent respiratory infections, especially in monasteries located at high altitudes where air is scarce and cold.
But Tibetan incense also had great spiritual value, as many legends testify. One tells the story of a young monk who sought to achieve enlightenment. This monk, named Tenzin, had heard of a sacred incense that could help open the doors of perception and attain a higher state of consciousness. Tenzin went in search of this incense, traveling through the mountains and valleys of Tibet.
After many years of searching, Tenzin met an old sage who lived in a secluded cave. The sage revealed to him that sacred incense was made from rare and precious plants that grew only in the high mountains. Tenzin, determined, set out to climb the mountains and finally found the necessary plants.
Back in his monastery, Tenzin prepared the sacred incense according to the sage's instructions. When he burned this incense for the first time, a golden light filled the room and Tenzin entered a state of deep meditation. He had visions of his past and future lives, and reached a level of spiritual fulfillment that he had never even imagined before.
Since that day, Tenzin's sacred incense has become an integral part of the monastery's rituals, helping monks achieve states of deep meditation and connect with the divine. It has also become the most sacred of Tibetan incense and has influenced the recipes of most incense from this region of the world.
