A simple glance shows that this statue is not an object like any other. The work of the craftsman, who sculpted it from the trunk of a coconut tree, gives it an incomparable authenticity.

History and Origin of the Moai

Located off the coast of Chile, Easter Island has about 400 Moai statues that were erected by the Rapanui people from the 13th century onwards.

These stone representations are up to 9 meters high and weigh up to 8 tons. Their meaning has always remained mysterious and still exalts scientists around the world: how could an ancient civilization make and move such enormous statues? What do they represent?

No one knows the exact origin of these monumental statues, but several explanations emerge:

  • Some believe that they are Maori gods because Easter Island is located in the Pacific Ocean and has been influenced by Polynesian culture.
  • Others say that they are tributes to important figures from the past.
  • Finally, more and more scientists believe that the Moai were erected for the fertility of the soil : the volcanic stone in which these stone giants were sculpted has the ability to fertilize the land sustainably and therefore to allow essential crops such as bananas or taro...

If you like ethnic trends and cosmopolitan decoration, this handcrafted Moai statue is a great choice for your decoration! It remains to be decided whether you will place it in the house or the garden, and whether you will use it as a simple statue, as a stool or why not, as a support for your most beautiful houseplant...

Coco Papaya presents Villa Métisse, its new interior and exterior decoration brand, created in 2023.

Natural materials and craftsmanship are the 2 main sources of inspiration for the brand to design its exclusive range of decorative objects with cosmopolitan accents.

In perfect harmony with current trends such as ethnic chic style or Bohemian atmospheres, Villa Métisse creations are designed so that decoration rhymes with serenity.

Basketry, different species of wood, bamboo, mother-of-pearl, brass, and many other noble materials are in the spotlight in the collections. But the real stars are the craftsmen who work them! Their virtuosity and the unlimited creativity that animate them, give birth to rare and authentic objects that bring a real extra soul.

In the era of all industrial, the handmade is gaining nobility. In our modern and hyper-connected interiors, inviting nature and the objects inspired by it is like taking a breath of fresh air...

Here a little wall decoration, then there, a pretty sculpture or an unusual object way "cabinet of curiosities"... No need to accumulate, bet on quality and authenticity to preserve the style and originality of your decoration.

Decoration can be thought of as a source of well-being and emotional release. Natural and warm colors, patterns inspired by ancestral traditions, and original creations that tell a story: this is the proposal of the Villa Métisse brand to make your living space an inspiring and soothing place.
