A bohemian decorating essential: the Papua necklace in natural shells.

  • Diameter of necklace alone: approx. 38 to 40cm.
  • Total height on base: approx. 55cm.
  • Materials: necklace in natural shells, plant fibers and cotton, metal base (included).
  • Handcrafted and fair trade: each piece is unique and may therefore differ slightly in appearance from the model photographed.

This authentic Papuan necklace is a marvel of craftsmanship, the result of meticulous attention to detail. It consists of hundreds of natural shells hand-sewn onto a cotton and vegetable fiber structure.

Sold with its metal base, it's a splendid tabletop decorative object, ideal for creating a bohemian or ethnic ambiance in the room of your choice. You can also separate it from its base and display it as a wall decoration if you prefer.

Each piece is unique and handcrafted according to the rules of fair trade. Slight differences in appearance are therefore possible, reflecting the authenticity and uniqueness of each piece.

Treat yourself to this magnificent object, a symbol of traditional craftsmanship and ethnic culture. It will add a touch of elegance and beauty to your home, while demonstrating your commitment to ethical and sustainable practices.

Origins and significance of the Papuan necklace

Did you know? The Papuan necklace is first and foremost a traditional tribal artifact used in important ceremonies such as weddings.

The Papuan necklace must reflect the prestige, stature and authority of the person wearing it. Many hours of work are therefore devoted to making it as impressive as possible! The materials used are simply those available in the vicinity of Papuan tribes: rooster feathers, sea shells, plant weavings (raffia, sea rush or water hyacinth), and sometimes wooden or terracotta beads.

It's usually the tribal chief who has the most imposing necklace, as the villagers have helped to make it a remarkable piece.

But where does the current craze for Papuan necklaces come from ? Beyond its undeniable beauty, perhaps it's above all the story it tells that seduces us most?
