A sunny décor full of vitamins!

Tiki decoration, originally from Polynesia (and especially Hawaii and Tahiti), is attracting more and more enthusiasts in search of exoticism and originality. This large Tiki Totem 50cm high has been hand-carved from a single piece of wood, then hand-painted: a long and meticulous work. It takes up the traditional style of Hawaiian and Tahitian totems.

The pineapples that decorate the totem pole symbolize Polynesian hospitality. Offering a pineapple is considered a gesture of welcome and generosity.

The palm trunk (between the two pineapples) is a symbol of abundance because this tree provides both food and materials for making huts (covered with palm leaves), surfboards and boats (made with the wood of the palm tree).

The Tiki is a representation of a god from Polynesian mythology, endowed with supernatural powers. By venerating him, one can benefit from his protection and good graces.

The Legend of Maui

A famous legend of Tahiti is that of the creation of the island, which tells the story of the Hawaiian goddess of fertility, Hina, and her son, the demigod Maui. Here is what this legend says:

A long time ago, in very ancient times, the Pacific Ocean cradled the immensity of its waters, but no land yet existed on its surface. Hina, the goddess of the moon and fertility, lived with her son, Maui, on a small floating island in the ocean. Maui, eager to find a place where people could live, persuaded his mother to help him create an island for their people.

One day, Hina gave Maui a powerful pickaxe made of shark bone, telling him that he had to dig deep into the ocean floor in order to raise an island to the surface. With determination, Maui plunged into the depths of the ocean and began digging. After days of hard work, he finally found rocky ground and, with the help of his mother, he slowly lifted the island of Tahiti out of the turbulent waters of the Pacific Ocean.

When the island emerged from the ocean, the land was fertile, abundant in fruit, flowers and life. Majestic mountains rose to the sky, rivers flowed like veins through the earth, and countless colorful birds sang merrily in the trees. Maui and Hina were proud of their creation and offered it to men to populate it.

Thus was born the island of Tahiti, a land blessed by the gods and imbued with the magic of creation.

Since then, its inhabitants have honored Maui and Hina for their gift of the land and have lived in harmony with nature and the elements around them. This legend continues to be passed down from generation to generation, reminding Tahitians of their close connection to their land and divine ancestors.
